I've got a way and you know how

Currently Playing: Yellowcard - Lights and Sounds

Large groups of Asians are stupid. Asians are stupid. People are stupid.

I was trying to pick up Tiffany from class on Tuesday in the Peterson parking turn-around, only I ran into a wall of Asians congregating around outside of Peterson. Normally, this would only annoy me and not piss me off, but not only was it an exceptionally large group of Asians, half of them were standing in the street! It's not like there wasn't ample sidewalk space for all of them to comfortably stand.
I mean, the street is narrow enough as it is. STAND ON THE SIDEWALK ASSHOLES!

Also, I don't understand why everyone is so hell bent on exiting out the rear door of the shuttle. At least half of the people in the front half of the shuttle go out the rear door. Combine that with all the people in the back of the shuttle and it takes forever to get out, especially if you're already late for class. If you are in the front half of the bus, go out the front door!

Randomness:

It's going to be a long season...

if it annoys you so much, just try not sitting in the back half of the bus. it only makes sense for some people in the front half to exit the back door because it's closer. i'm sure they want to get to class just as bad as you do, so of course they're gonna use the faster exit.

Believe me, if I have a choice, I sit/stand near the front of the shuttle. Most of the time though, I don't have a choice of where to sit/stand.

And that kind of thinking is exactly what annoys me anyway. "Let's slow everyone else down so I can get to where I want to go faster." If you take the time to notice, the back exit takes almost twice as much time to clear out as the front exit does. What I don't understand is why the people in the front of the bus don't just go out the front door. Not only would they be getting out faster, everyone else would too.

how do you not have a choice where to sit/stand? if you get on the shuttle early, sit/stand near the middle or front. if you get there late, then you'd probably be standing near the front anyway. and people in the front DO go out the front door. people in the middle go out the back door. cause in reality, the "back" door is more of a middle door. people sitting in or near the front will go for the front door unless it's more efficient for them to use the middle. they don't care if it makes it slower for others of course. i don't get why this annoys you so much. it's just basic principles of people doing what's easier for themselves. and i suggest you do the same by not sitting/standing in the back!

Actually, most of the time I don't have a choice. I get on the shuttle at 7:25am, usually at the Regents/Lebon stop. By the time the shuttle gets there, either all or nearly all of the seats are taken. Of course, the only seats left are towards the rear of the shuttle, so if I choose to sit, then I'm going to be in the back. The shuttle usually fills up at this stop, so if there are no seats left, everyone has to pack in, and luckily/unluckily for me, I'm usually one of the first people to get on the shuttle because I come from the side where less people stand. I am not going to be one of those people and just stop near the front or near the rear door and force everyone to go around. So then obviously I, more often than not, am forced to the back of the shuttle. It's not just a clear-cut distinction of being so early or late that I have only two choices.

And, if you look in my original post, I do say that "at least half the people in the front half of the shuttle go out there rear door." I do realize those things you pointed out. I was just referring to them with the same terminology you used.

To make this as clear for you as possible, let's divide the shuttle into three approximately equal sections: 1) the front half between the front door and rear door, 2) the rear half between the front door and rear door, 3) and the rear portion behind the rear door. Now, I can understand that some of the people in section 2 would want to go out the rear door, and that's fine. But usually ALL the people in section 2 go out the rear door. Now, do you not understand that when you combine section 2 with section 3, all trying to get out the rear door, this causes an unnecessary slowdown? I've seen people in section 2 waiting to get out the rear door only to realize there's no one left in the front of the bus, so they turn around and go out the front door. Most of the people in section 2 should just go out the front door, EVEN IF it's not the closest way - it would still make things faster for them and me.

Those people slowing me down isn't what annoys me the most anyway. That's just a minor passing annoyance. It's the fact that "they don't care if it makes it slower for others of course." But I guess since you said it, you wouldn't be able to understand what I mean anyway. I'm not saying that I'm not guilty of caring about myself more than others too, but in this case for most of them having some (un)common decency comes at little personal cost.

you're choosing to go to sit in the back... there's nothing wrong with waiting by the door and letting people go around. as long as you're not blocking the way. you got on the shuttle first, so you can choose where you want to stand. if you can't beat them, join them. if you go to the back it's your choice. also, another reason people might go out the "rear" door is cause it's less walking if that's the side closer to their classroom hah. another solution for you is to just push your way out of the back door. don't just sit there and take it!

i completely agree with Calvin. There's nothing more annoying than being in the back of the shuttle waiting for everyone to exit the rear doors while people are already filing in from the front. If you are "section 2," most of the time it would be faster to be the last ones out the front than the middle ones out the back, so that doesn't really make much sense. People are stupid.

Oh yeah, Asians are stupid, too. Maybe you should've hit them with your car. It's electric, so if you keep your headlights off at night, they won't hear or see you coming at all... like those golf carts people drive around campus all the time.

i agree with calvin that it's annoying... the point is just that that there's an easy fix to get past that. it's not like people are going to change the way they are. asians will always be stupid. =P

There is plenty wrong with standing by the door and making people walk around you. It's just proper shuttle etiquette to walk back as far as possible to fit as many people as possible. I hate the people who suddenly stop at the door, holding up the whole line of people behind them. Sure, the people that already realize you have stopped can go around you, but the few people that are right behind you have to stop, wait for you to get out of the way, then proceed towards the back of the shuttle.

And just pushing my way out the door would be even worse than stopping at the door. That is just blatantly being an asshole. Just because some other people are assholes does not mean I should or have the right to be one. I am not just "[sitting] there and [taking] it" like you insinuate. Pushing people out of the way just so you can get to where you want to go faster proves nothing except that you are a bigger asshole than the people who choose a slight convenience, like saving a few feet of walking, without caring that they are inconveniencing many other people by doing so.

You're right. I do have the choice to be an asshole.

But that does not make it the right choice.

just stand on the step in front of the door. you'll be the first one out. you won't be in anybody's way. while pushing would make you an asshole, i don't think staying near the middle is, as long as you let people know they can go around you. in fact sometimes it's better, especially on the ride home. nothing is more annoying than having to wait for somebody in the very back to wade through a crowd of people to get out at his stop.

but seriously... after a couple years of riding the city shuttle, i've never been annoyed at the fact that people go out the rear door. and i'm usually easily annoyed! maybe it's that i don't see anything too out of the ordinary. maybe it's cause the actual amount of extra time i'm forced to stay on the shuttle when i'm in the back isn't significant.

something else i noticed today is that when exiting, the back door is big enough so that 2 people can get out at a time. one from "section 2" and one from "section 3". would having the exit only be for "secion 3" people change that much? perhaps the reason why the back is slow is because the seats are arranged so that people have to get up and get out one at a time. in the front sections, people can get up and walk out quickly. just a thought. i think i'm overanalyzing this trivial situation now...

other than that, you should do something to fix the problem of people going to the back. the next time you see people do it, i suggest you kindly yell out "hey fuckers, go out the front door!" that'll show them.

It's true that you can stand on the steps and be relatively out of everyone's way. The steps, however, are prime real estate. Once the seats are filled, that's usually the next to fill up, and usually only two people at most can sit/stand on the steps. This doesn't leave a very large time frame. I've probably only gotten to that spot once or twice this whole year.

It's also true that two people can fit through the back door at the same time, but for some reason it always takes much longer for the rear door to empty than the front door. As Jon (I believe it was Jon who left that comment, and even though I can usually tell who it is, I really wish you people would just choose "Other" instead of "Anonymous" when you leave a comment) pointed out, people start filing into the shuttle before everyone in the back even has the chance to get out. And the rate limiting step isn't just that only one person can get up from the back seats at a time, because there is a noticeable slowdown that shouldn't be there in the line that forms from the back of the shuttle.

I also don't really care on the way home. If you get off at an earlier stop and you can stand near the door so you don't have to wade through a bunch of people to get out, all the better. It's worth the inconvenience of walking around you.
